Art 2 has helped me improve in many different subjects from showing more depth, value ranges, and emotion in my work, to learning different application techniques and improving the composition of my work. One of the most beneficial projects i have done in class was Painting in the style of an artist. I loved this project because it encouraged me to branch out and try a different style and also to paint which is something i don't do and i am not very familiar with. My artist was Caspar David Friedrich who painted gothic landscapes. I loved this project also because i got to learn a bit about a famous artist i was not familiar with. I usually don't even sketch landscapes and to paint one was definitely not in my comfort zone, however i feel it made me branch out in a way i would not have if i did not take the class. I learned different application techniques and realized how surprisingly peaceful it is to paint, not only just paint in general but also to paint the world. I learned more about how you show depth by using different shades of the same color and show contrast between colors in nature.
During art 2 i was introduced to different mediums which inspired me to explore them on my own. One of which was watercolor, which we practiced different application techniques in class. I went on my own time to improve and explore more with watercolor. In the watercolor paintings i did in class with apples i was very unfamiliar and uncomfortable with the application. I was left with a lack of a strong value in the final product and was unhappy with the composition. However on my own time i filled an entire page with watercolor and used techniques that were taught in class such as using a dry brush and layering the colors using more water. Another project we did was the Close Up project inspired by the work of Georgia O'Keefe. For this project i used colored pencils. I was so unhappy and frustrated with the colored pencils i ended up never finishing the project. I could not solidify the color or show enough value by using different shades of one color. I then decided with the set of prisma-color colored pencils i have at my house i'd branch out and try colored pencils one more time. I loved the final product of this piece and now colored pencils are something i love using in my work.
